Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Code of Ethics - Français

The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to set forth values and principles to guide social workers' professional conduct. While a code of ethics cannot guarantee ethical behaviour it guides social workers as they act in good faith and with a genuine desire to make sound decisions.

The Code of Ethics identifies core social work values, and the principles which underlie those values. The identified core values are:

1. A social worker or social service worker shall maintain the best interest of the client as the primary professional obligation;
   
   
2. A social worker or social service worker shall respect the intrinsic worth of the persons she or he serves in her or his professional relationships with them;
   
   
3. A social worker or social service worker shall carry out her or his professional duties and obligations with integrity and objectivity;
   
   
4. A social worker or social service worker shall have and maintain competence in the provision of a social work or social service work service to a client;
   
   
5. A social worker or social service worker shall not exploit the relationship with a client for personal benefit, gain or gratification;
   
   
6. A social worker or social service worker shall protect the confidentiality of all professionally acquired information. He or she shall disclose such information only when required or allowed by law to do so, or when clients have consented to disclosure;
   
   
7. A social worker or social service worker who engages in another profession, occupation, affiliation or calling shall not allow these outside interests to affect the social work or social service work relationship with the client;
   
   
8. A social worker or social service worker shall not provide social work or social service work services in a manner that discredits the profession of social work or social service work or diminishes the public’s trust in either profession;
   
   
9. A social worker or social service worker shall advocate for workplace conditions and policies that are consistent with this Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers;
   
   
10. A social worker or social service worker shall promote excellence in his or her respective profession;
    
    
11. A social worker or social service worker shall advocate change in the best interest of the client, and for the overall benefit of society, the environment and the global community.

L’objet du Code de déontologie consiste à déterminer des valeurs et des principes qui guident la conduite des travailleurs sociaux professionnels. Même si un code de déontologie ne peut pas garantir des comportements éthiques, il aide les travailleurs sociaux lorsqu’ils agissent en toute bonne foi et souhaitent vraiment prendre de bonnes décisions.

Le Code de déontologie détermine les valeurs fondamentales du travail social ainsi que les principes qui les sous-tendent. Ces valeurs fondamentales sont les suivantes :

1. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social doit considérer l'intérêt du client comme son obligation professionnelle fondamentale;
   
   
2. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social doit respecter la valeur intrinsèque des personnes à qui il fournit des services dans le cadre de ses rapports professionnels avec elles;
   
   
3. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social doit s'acquitter de ses obligations et devoirs professionnels avec intégrité et objectivité;
   
   
4. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social doit avoir et maintenir la compétence nécessaire pour fournir au client un service en travail social ou en techniques de travail social;
   
   
5. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social ne doit pas se servir de la relation qu'il a avec le client pour en retirer avantage, gratification ou gain personnels;
   
   
6. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social doit protéger le caractère confidentiel de tous les renseignements acquis dans l'exercice de sa profession. Il ne doit divulguer ces renseignements que s'il y est contraint ou autorisé par la loi, ou lorsque les clients ont consenti à une telle divulgation;
   
   
7. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social qui a une autre profession, un autre emploi ou métier, ou d'autres affiliations, ne doit pas laisser ces intérêts extérieurs nuire à sa relation professionnelle avec le client;
   
   
8. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social ne doit pas fournir des services en travail social ou techniques de travail social d'une manière qui discrédite la profession de travailleur social ou de technicien en travail social ou qui diminue la confiance du public envers l'une ou l'autre de ces professions;
   
   
9. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social recommande des conditions de travail et des lignes directrices qui sont conformes au Code de déontologie et aux Normes d'exercice de l'Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des techniciens en travail social de l'Ontario;
   
   
10. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social encourage l'excellence dans leurs professions respectives;
    
    
11. Le travailleur social ou technicien en travail social préconise des changements dans l'intérêt du client et pour le bien général de la société, du milieu et de toute la communauté.
